Helena is a dedicated filmmaker with an adventurous spirit. Affiliated with the "Alliance of Women Directors" (AWD) based in Los Angeles, she creates heartfelt and thoughtful films in both fiction and non-fiction forms.
In 2025, Helena directed two short documentaries on Native American artists, "Indigenous Through Flute" and "Mending the Sacred Hoop", commissioned by Art of Mastery.org and released in September and May. She directed a feature documentary on a martial arts legend for JTR Jujutsu International (D.C). She interned at Red Door Films, under the supervision of Oscar-nominated director Matia Karrell as a line producer, production manager, script reader, and assistant.
Born in a small town in China, Helena was a tomboy who enjoyed swimming in rivers, climbing trees, and defending justice. She obtained her MA degree in English literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University. Later, Helena became a journalist for China Global TV Network.
Between 2012 and 2019, Helena produced the documentary series "Faces of Africa", spanning 200 episodes across 30 countries. The content reached millions of viewers worldwide, recognized by organizations including UNESCO, The Independent, and Villanova University. In 2018, the show won Silver in the category of "Documentary Series for TV" at the Telly Awards.
In 2015, Helena wrote, directed, and narrated "When Chinese Meet Zambians” garnering 2.9 million views on YouTube. It was featured on PBS SoCal's “Global Mosaic” series. In 2020, her film "The Island" won “Best Medium Documentary” at the Heritales Film Festival in Portugal.
In 2023, Helena obtained her MFA degree in film from ArtCenter College of Design. She directed several short psychological and drama films including "The Counseling", a winner at the IndieFest Film Awards and a finalist at the Independent Shorts Awards.
This new path has opened up a wonderland that she’s ready and exhilarated to explore.
